Small tree with pale lilac flowers in upright panicles. Attractive grey-green aromatic leaves. 9ft tree/shrub. Or can be cut to the ground every spring and grown as a 4ft herbaceous perennial. Is an 'anaphrodisiac', reducing sexual desire. It is reported to have been sprinkled on monks food for obvious reasons

Sow in autumn, overwinter outdoors, germinates in spring. Or mix seed with damp vermiculite, keep warm 3 weeks, put in fridge 6 weeks, then sprinkle mix on compost and put in cool light place
